Position: Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Staff Advocate

Reporting Office: Bishop, CA

Pay Range: $22.50-$28.74               

Job Type: Part-Time, hourly, non-exempt, temporary

Benefits: Employee retirement with employer contributions, paid holidays, vacation, and sick accruals.

(Benefits available after successful completion of introductory period.)

 

Job Description: The CASA Staff Advocate provides advocacy to youth in the foster care system in Inyo and Mono Counties. This is a mandated reporting position. Reports to CASA Program Manager. This position allows for up to 20 hours of work per week, and hours may vary based on agency needs. The position is temporary until July 2026 and may be made permanent at that time dependent on securing on-going funding.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalency and 21 years of age.

  • At least one year of experience performing similar or transferable duties.

  • A high degree of integrity in dealing with confidential information.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

  • The ability to work well under pressure and deal appropriately with crisis and stress situations.

  • Highly computer literate. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Willing to learn industry specific client-based software.

  • Demonstrates clear, professional, accurate information in both oral and written communications.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize.

  • Able to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.

  • Must be willing to undergo a live scan background check.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development or related field.

  • Experience with child welfare system and knowledge of related laws, or experience with court systems.

  • HIGHLY PREFERRED: Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Meet with assigned CASA youth weekly or as needed to assess needs and provide recommendations to the Court.

  • Advocate for assigned CASA youth in community settings (court, school, social services, medical, etc.).

  • Write court reports based on the best interest of the child, file CASA reports with the court, attend hearings.

  • Organize and maintain case records for assigned cases in accordance with applicable laws.

  • Complete all documentation required by law, grantors, and agency policies.

  • Make mandated reports of child abuse or neglect per California Penal Code Section 11165.7.

  • Work as needed in offices or community settings in Inyo and Mono Counties (may use agency vehicle).

  • Complete the CASA Volunteer training and maintain certification compliance with National CASA Standards. This training is provided by Wild Iris.

  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the agency including representing the agency in a professional manner and maintaining the highest standard of confidentiality.

  • Support, assist with, and participate in the organization of events and activities which increase awareness and community investment in the program.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt

(Benefits available after successful completion of 30 to 90-day waiting period.)

Job Description: Provides crisis intervention services during and outside of regular office hours to clients who have been affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.  May work from home if scheduled outside of normal office hours. This is not a mandated reporting position. Reports to DV/SA Programs Coordinator. 

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.

  • High School diploma or equivalency.

  • Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to use a computer and proficiency with Office 365 and learn industry specific software.

  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in both individual and team settings.

  • Knowledge of professional office practices including proper conduct and dress.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and deal appropriately with crisis and stress situations.

  • Willing to undergo to a live scan background check.

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience with a similar agency.

  • At least one year of experience performing similar or transferable duties.

  • Completion of the Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Counselor training pursuant to California Evidence Code, Article 8.7, Section 1037.1

                                                                                                                                          

Essential Job Duties:

  • Respond to walk in clients or hotline phone calls needing immediate assistance with issues relating to domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Provide crisis intervention services for persons directly or indirectly experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Respond to hospital and law enforcement calls to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Provide Emergency Protective Order (EPO) and Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) assistance in Inyo and Mono Counties.

  • Available to work after-hours shifts on 24-hour crisis line.

  • Collaborate with referral agencies and provide professional training.

  • Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Counselor certified pursuant to California Evidence Code, Article 8.7, Section 1037.1; participate in ongoing training to maintain certification. This training is provided by Wild Iris.

  • Provide culturally sensitive services and work with representatives of under-served communities in our service area.

  • Provide Safe Haven services and other emergency support to survivors.

  • Maintain accurate client records, documentation, data collection, and completion of reports and forms as outlined in grant requirements and Agency policy.

  • Complete all documentation required by law, grantors, and agency policies.

  • Provide office coverage as needed at offices in Inyo and Mono Counties.

  • Maintain accurate time keeping records in accordance with state and federal labor laws.

  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the agency including representing the agency in a professional manner and maintaining the highest standard of confidentiality.

  • Participate in community outreach and education events as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
