Support Group Advocate
Pay Range: $22.50-$28.74
Job Type: Full-time, hourly, non-exempt
Reporting Office: Bishop
Benefits: Employee retirement with employer contributions, medical insurance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick accruals.

Job Description: This position is primarily responsible for organizing and facilitating peer support groups, educational presentations, and outreach events open to the public and provided in community settings in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes. Also responsible for providing crisis intervention services to clients who have been affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. May work from home if scheduled outside of normal office hours. This is a mandated reporting position. Reports to DV/SA Programs Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Required:

High School diploma or equivalency.
-
Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
-
Ability to use a computer and proficiency with Office 365 and learn industry specific software.

Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-
Ability to work with minimal supervision in both individual and team settings.
-
Knowledge of professional office practices including proper conduct and dress.
-
Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
-
Ability to work well under pressure and deal appropriately with crisis and stress situations.
-
Willing to undergo to a live scan background check.

At least one year of experience with a similar agency and/or an agency providing community-based peer groups and classes.
Preferred:

More than one year of experience providing community-based peer groups and classes.

Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Counselor certification pursuant to California Evidence Code, Article 8.7, Section 1037.1

HIGHLY PREFERRED: Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish.
Essential Job Duties:
-
Organize and facilitate peer support groups, educational presentations, and outreach events open to the public and provided in community settings in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes.
-
Organize and facilitate closed peer support groups and psychoeducational classes at Transitional Housing campus for Transitional Housing residents in collaboration with Housing Advocates.
-
Provide additional community support groups, educational presentations, and outreach events in outlying areas of Inyo and Mono Counties, including at Inyo and Mono County Jails, in collaboration with the Youth/Outreach Advocate.

Implement evidence-based curricula for school and/or youth-focused violence prevention programming, presentations, support groups, and other youth activities in collaboration with the Youth/Outreach Advocate.

Collaborate with referral agencies and provide professional training.
-
Respond to walk in clients or phone calls needing immediate assistance with issues relating to domestic violence & sexual assault.

Provide crisis intervention services for persons directly or indirectly experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault.
-
Provide Safe Haven services and other emergency support to survivors.
-
Respond to hospital and law enforcement calls to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
-
Provide Emergency Protective Order (EPO) and Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) assistance in Inyo and Mono Counties.
-
Available to work after-hours shifts on 24-hour crisis line.

Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Counselor certified pursuant to California Evidence Code, Article 8.7, Section 1037.1; participate in ongoing training to maintain certification.

Provide culturally sensitive services and culturally specific support groups and work with representatives of underserved communities in our service area.
-
Maintain accurate client records, documentation, data collection, completion of reports and forms as required by grants and Agency policy.
-
Provide office coverage as needed in offices in Inyo and Mono Counties
-
Adhere to the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the agency including representing the agency in a professional manner and maintaining the highest standard of confidentiality.

Make mandated reports of child, dependent adult, and elderly abuse or neglect per California Penal Code Section 11165.7

Perform other duties as assigned.
